You can use this link to find out if your vehicle has any Unperformed or Incomplete Recalls or Customer Satisfaction Notifications On Your Vehicle, enter the last 8 characters of your VIN and it will let you know.

I was all ready to do this, go out to get the VIN, and remember oh, I'm driving the rental car. ugh. :( lol.

If your insurance company has an online service you should be able to get teh VIN from there.
