Came down to our place in Destin for the week and man is it a sad sight. All of the restaurants that had an hour plus wait this week last year, are totally empty. Last night we had our server break down crying because we were one of two parties in the restaurant. The guy who has shuttled us from the airport to our place for the past 5 years was talking about having to move his family from Destin because he can't support them anymore (He's lived there for 55+ years). One of the worst parts is it's not even that bad. Media makes out to be the apocalypse causing everyone to cancel their trips. The only silver lining I've seem to have discovered is the non faltering morale of the people. Two of our neighbors spent two hours, in wake of hurricane Alex, cleaning up tar balls on the entire beach. We bought a couple of shovels and rubber gloves today to lend a hand tomorrow although I don't think there will be much oil ashore. Yesterday was the first day I saw any tar balls. It's too bad other places along the gulf haven't had as much luck on their side with the oil.

Sorry guys, it's raining and I'm stuck inside and just wanted to vent.

It is horrible Brent, I feel everyday for the people who are directly effected by this. Sadly though this is just the tip of the iceberg I am afraid

I feel the same way. It's just sad to see so many people's livelihoods and so many beautiful locations put at such high risk just because people cut corners to drill a couple hundred extra barrels of oil

It is sad to think of all of the people effected by this, worse is they had nothing to do with it.
