There are 3 bolts under the insert in the compartment. There are 2 at the front under the little rubber cup thing. Think there are 2 behind the ash tray as well but it's been a bit so I can't remember. You will need to pull the ashtray though, pretty sure on that.

Hmm... now that is an idea... not sure which wire is the lighted wire for the shifter. Best way I know is to use a test light to check the connection to see which wire is for the lights. I have mine on a switch to where I can turn them off, but I haven't done the cup holders.... yet.

10-27-2009, 02:13 AM
Ok what you're gonna need to do is run some wire from the connector wires to the LED. Use scotchlocks to do this.
Then you need to solder one wire to one LED lead and the other wire to the other LED lead.
Then you will need to center splice one resistor lead to one wire and the other lead to the other wire.

FOST3RS CHARG3R
10-27-2009, 02:18 AM
okay so just so its idiot proof, i have two poles coming off of the led, im running 1 wire from each of the poles and splicing them together and soldering it to one end of the resister, and then what from there?

hawkeye4077
10-27-2009, 02:36 AM
You need 2 pieces of wire.

First splice one wire to one of the connector wires
Then splice the other wire to the other connector wire.
Then take one of the wires you splice in and solder it to one of the LED leads.
Then take the other wire and solder it to the other LED lead.
Then take one resistor lead and center splice it to one of the wires.
Then take the other resistor lead and center splice it to the other wire.

You will end up with one resistor lead and one LED lead attached to each wire.

No you dont. You have one resistor with 2 leads. You have and LED with 2 leads.
You have 2 wires that you spliced into the connector wires one into each wire.Take the 2 wires and attach one to one LED lead and the other wire to the other LED lead.
Then a few inches away from that you are going to center splice one lead from the resistor to one of the wires. Then center splice the other lead from the resistor to the other wire.

http://i946.photobucket.com/albums/ad310/Fostercr/help.jpg

No its not. You need to have one positive and one negative.
One end of the resistor needs to go to one wire. The other end needs to go to the other wire.
Then one wire goes to one lead of the LED and the other wire to the other lead.
Do you know what center splicing is?

FOST3RS CHARG3R
10-27-2009, 03:52 AM
not really? Im confused. if theres only one wire going to the led what happens with the second pole of the led?

(sorry i know im a royal p.i.t.a. but im completly electronically retarded)

FOST3RS CHARG3R
10-27-2009, 03:54 AM
Crude but maybe this will give you the idea.
http://gpmm.org/attachment.php?attachmentid=24&stc=1&d=1256615044

see this is where i get confused because there are two poles on the led (im assuming positive and negative) and two wires comin from the power supply (positive and negative) but only one pole coming out of each side of the resistor?

Black Magic
10-27-2009, 03:57 AM
Yeap, take one side of the resistor and put it on the positive and one on the negative.

FOST3RS CHARG3R
10-27-2009, 03:58 AM
makes perfect sense until i have to connect the resistor to the pwer supply

hawkeye4077

OK one wire goes to one lead of the resistor and one lead of the LED.
The other wire goes to the other side of the resistor and the other side of the LED.

FOST3RS CHARG3R
10-27-2009, 04:13 AM
okay so thats a little better. I think i somewhat understand it now. again im sorry for being so dumb with all of this, i have two wires running off of my leds straight to the positive and negative wires from my power supply but in between the connections there needs to be a resistor?

Black Magic
10-27-2009, 04:15 AM
Take one end of a wire, one lead of the led and one lead of the resistor and solder them together. Take the other end and splice it to the plug wire that your tapping into from the car. Now take another wire, take the end, the OTHER led lead and the OTHER resistor lead and solder them together. Take the other end of that wire and splice it to the other wire of the plug your splicing into.

hawkeye4077
10-27-2009, 04:17 AM

No problem man. Glad we could help out. I take it it's all working correctly? Make sure you wrap up the connections real good. Personally when I wire stuff that could possibly get moisture (or drinks) in them I used Liquid electrical tape. Its available at parts stores but is a little pricy. It's specifically made for those type applications.
