I took some time to check out how much gunk was inside my throttle body and I was disgusted! Here are the pics and steps I followed if anyone plans on doing this.

Get prepared to see the filthy insides of your engine.

Remove the clip on top.

Remove the clip attached to the intake.

Detach the intake so you have room to operate.

This is what the inside looks like.

There are four bolts to remove from the TB. Use 8mm socket.

Once you have the bolts out, try not to drop them!

The other side of the TB. EWWWWW!!!

Spray carb cleaner everywhere and wipe away with a rag.

While I had the TB removed, I decided to paint it flat black.

Reverse your steps (but dont put grime BACK IN) and enjoy the temporary cleanliness.

I also removed the hood prop that has been there for far too long. I installed hood struts about a year ago and just left the prop for no reason.

Much better now!

Good write up

It is my understanding, though, that carb and TB cleaners are somewhat different (?)

This buildup is why we reccomme3d a catch-can. What you see on the throttle plate is also in your intake.

I am not sure about what any chemical differences are, but carb cleaner is just what I found at the store and I saw another member who used a similar brand. It definitely did the job and I didnt have to scrub at all - just wiped up the mess.

A catch can is now a top priority, hawk!! 63,000 miles of goop is unacceptable. I think I will get a satin black one. ;)

AWESOME write up. That is exactly the reason I got my catch can. I need to pull mine and clean it and then run some cleaner through the intake to try and clean that as much as possible. Clean that engine bay too! That's an easy mods that's worth a lot of points at a show. Mine looks like it came off the show room, use some degreaser, let it set a while then using a low pressure hose, rinse it down. Get some spray detailer and spray down the entire engine. Let it set a while (30 minutes or so) then wipe away the excess. Repeat ever few months with detailer or as needed. In between wipe down as needed with a soft cloth.

I have never tried it but I hear using some seafoam will clean that out...............Ed may know more about it than me but I know when I worked at a Stealership they used to use that stuff to clean out intakes all the time.................

I was hoping no one would mention the disgracefully dusty engine. LOL. I actually did clean it up today! :)

Thanks! It's one of those parts that you really never pay attention to.
