View Full Version : From mild to wild.... a Magic history
Black Magic 11-05-2009, 02:38 PM This will take several posts as I can do 4 pics at a time.
Flash back to Jan 2007, gas prices SUCK and my Tahoe does too. The 5.7 is VERY thirsty on that old girl so she sucks up the juice big time. Wife and I figure car payments vs. gas prices and it would be cheaper to get a new vehicle with better millage than to keep the Tahoe. We started shopping around and a dealership pointed out the Magnum. I wasn't really interested at the time, figured it would cost to much as it was an SRT. I was right, wouldn't save much on fuel not to mention insurance and over all cost would have been too much and I wouldn't have saved a dime.
Told family to keep an eye out, my uncle knows just about everyone. One of his friends that owns a small used dealership got a BB SE Magnum in and told me to go look at it. Fell in love right off, V6 promised a good millage with my light foot, price was right 2k off book value and only 500 over what the guy paid for it.
Less than a week later she was setting in the driveway.

Well, she was bone stock and I hate a stock anything... so I knew that would have to change. The stock stereo wouldn't play MP3s, OK, that's got to go. I've got the killer Eclipse head unit in my Tahoe so out it comes and in goes the stock GM radio again.

A long time ago when I had my Toyota 4x4 with the AC that sucked I found out what a difference tint makes. After I tinted that truck it went from AC sucking to AC that would freeze you out. Well the Mag being untinted was unacceptable. Altimere had a good special so I invested in some lifetime ultra dark tint.

Well, going for the old school look I searched around and found me a barefoot peddle to put in. I also added the 1st interior LEDs which were blue.
NEED NEW IMAGE
Like skulls so next stop.. chrome skull rearview..
http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss120/BlackMagicMag/Interior/mirror.jpg
I also searched around and found an old school skull shifter knob, OK it wasn't one but it is now. Drilled and tapped it and turned it into a shifter.
(Couldn't find an old pic, didn't have the power ports at this time or the switches which are gone now)

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 02:52 PM One of the 1st exterior mods I done was to put eyelids on it.

OK, now it's time to get a little more serious. When I bought it, it needed some new tires. It had one good, 1 ok and 2 bald/belt showing tires. I bought 4 new ones so they are all stock sizes. Keeping in mind I have new tires now, when I shopped for wheels, I shopped stock sizes.
I found a GREAT deal on mine though Centerline themselves. They were overstock so I got them for 199$ EACH! They are 1 piece aluminum and polished, not chrome. Got them to the house and took them to get them installed with those new tires. I also put an undercar LED kit on.

I've always been a stereo guy so I couldn't leave it alone without subs...

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 02:56 PM I wanted a custom plate and waited to figure out which one they let me have. I had a few choices but this is the one that came along and Magic was born.

I wanted to be different from every mag I saw on the street. I looked into Chargum but knew that was out of my price range, at least for now. I looked through about 30 grills and just didn't want the same as everyone else. I got brave and had a Danko shipped to me... Where, here is the scary part... no turning back now!

CAI helps them breath better, anything is better than stock IMO, well almost anything. After pricing the 4 or 5 intakes I didn't want to drop 200-400 on a 2.7. I got parts and built my own. (updated pics)

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:02 PM Sometimes the subtle stuff counts. I thought about tinting the tails and 3rd... I came across this idea instead.

http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss120/BlackMagicMag/Exterior%20mods/blackmagic.jpg
Tails could really go only one way IMO. I had to cut that red down, it looked like a sore thumb back there. I was thinking tint but had to see what my options were. Here come the smoked LED tails. These do the trick!

Well, now that she is getting some attitude, she needed a little altitude....
I had got a set of Eibach Pro springs and they had been waiting on time/money to be installed. Sold the Tahoe so to the shop she went!
http://i567.photobucket.com/albums/ss120/BlackMagicMag/Exterior%20mods/Lowering%20B4%20After/B4.jpg
Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:07 PM Later that day I went to get her.

Now that her rear is lookin better and her altitude adjustment, I had to get the front in order. I wanted halos but really didn't want to take my headlights apart to get them. I looked around and really liked the looks of the CCFL Projectors. What luck, a guy on the CM was selling some. My way they came.

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:11 PM I also forgot to mention I added the factory fogs which can be seen in these shots as well.

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:14 PM I wanted to add a little more underhood uniqueness... ABS cover from a group buy. I also have the AAC Oracle LED controller that is hooked the some grill lights in blue.

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:17 PM Now the fuse box cover and washer cap stand out like sore thumbs... Time to fix that.. ED! He posts of a car show the next day while the paint and clear are still drying!

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:20 PM Guess that's OK Ed, we brought home 1st place... We had a lot of fun and forgive the short notice. This is our 1st 1st place win so we're really happy about it!

Now were getting the mod bug.... That wiper has annoyed me for a long time and after a post on CM about how easy it is to remove....

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:23 PM The center cap cover thingy didn't make it for some reason. Oh well, we came up with a better solution to the problem. A little velcro and some work with the dremel tool. The front emblem from the grill was used and PRESTO!

(I'll do a write up on this for everyone. I done a write up about this.... )
This isn't all in order of when they were done, I've kind of jumped around some so I guess lets catch up on some of the small stuff. As you remember I added power ports beside the ashtray. I also covered the arm rest before most of these mods.

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:26 PM I covered the headliner and interior panels, I also done the hatch. The 1st time I got it upside down somehow. Anyway I recovered it and this is how it now looks... also will hit the interior pics.

Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:39 PM There are prob. any number of misc. little mods that I'm forgetting like the dash cover, upgraded the subs to two and 2 amps, LED fans with the amps. Just a lot of little stuff. But this is the majority of the mods. I hope you enjoy the show!
Black Magic 11-05-2009, 03:41 PM Thanks Yo! I'm sure your starting to learn how one mod leads to another which leads to another. If I took all the money I've invested in the mods I could almost pay the car off already LOL.
0212353 11-05-2009, 04:25 PM good god, I would be divorced by the end of all that.
come to think of it.....if the wife knew EVERYTHING that I did to the truck, she'd just kill me.
Black Magic 11-05-2009, 04:49 PM My wife is very supportive of the car though maybe a little jealous. Magic gets more attention sometimes. The main complaint so far has been why her car is still mostly stock... o.O I bought her a 95 Camaro that if fully optioned out. Leather, power everything, Bose with factory sub. Tinted it and put on CAI filter and put new tires on it when she drove on a flat and ruined one. Was going to wait till taxes but didn't have a choice.
Prospector 11-05-2009, 09:52 PM What a great transformation!
Congratz
FOST3RS CHARG3R 11-06-2009, 12:51 AM good lord you been busy!
Craftsman 11-06-2009, 01:02 AM Nice write up man. Your car has sure come along well. It is your attention to detail that is the most awesome!!!
