View Full Version : Finally Mounted The Diffuser
bill440cars 02-18-2011, 08:29 PM Yep, I don't have a pop rivet gun that will work with plastic, so I had to improvise. I DO have a standard pop rivet gun, but it won't work with the larger plastic pop rivets. I've tried to make an adapter out of a brass fitting, but haven't perfected it yet. Think I'll just give in and get one that is made for that. I've got a bad habit of making do with what I've got and it ain't always easy. Not too happy with the plastic pop rivet job, so I will be redoing it. But here it is, for now.

Thanks Landon, I've looked at our local store and didn't see it, but maybe I need to ASK, as I MIGHT have over looked it. I know they had rivets and thought for sure they would have them too. Appreciate it! ;)

Thanks, I appreciate it. Been a little bit since I've done much to the Charger and I didn't want it to feel neglected. ;)

Well, thank you, much appreciated. I have to admit something now, AFTER I worked to get that ON there, I had to go to Fort Smith this evening to get mu Daughter and decided to leave a little early and go by Harbor Freight and ask about the pop rivet tool. Well, it seems that our store DID have them! Only thing is they weren't even close to where the rivets themselves were. I call myself looking all over the place, for that thing and completely overlooked it. It was in the are where pliers were. Makes NO sense to ME at all, bur what do I know? So, tomorrow, I'll redo the diffuser and put it up a bit tighter. ;)

Thanks guys, I DO like the way it fits in.
And Terrence, thank you, but I know where Harbor Freight is and already have a Pop Rivet set similar to that one that I bought years ago (back in 1971, when I worked for VW in Little Rock. The one I was needing (And found out After the install, that They DID indeed have it on hand).
Here is the one I was needing (thanks for your efforts though) And it came with 40 riviets for $14.49

Not a problem Terrence, any input is always appreciated.
Bought one like this, back in the early 70's, from Snap On and it is still working well. It REALLY isn't even broken in, as I didn't need it often, but when working on VWs and the AC ducts and such, never knew when you'd need one.
bill440cars 02-19-2011, 06:26 PM Well, by golly, that diffuser is REALLY properly installed NOW! I just came in from using my new (Plastic type) pop rivet tool. Wasn't as easy as I thought it would be though. Of course it didn't help when I went to drill out some the of the rivets I had previously installed and the battery went down on my cordless drill. So, I got out my air drill and found out that the air pressure was too low. So then, I went to reset the breaker on my compressor and had to mess with IT! The Extension (w/about 6 outlets) that I use, has a weak breaker. I need a H.D. one. So, I managed to get the air pressure I needed and then I had to remove the 2 mounts off of the right resonator, to get it done. I finally got that done, put all of the tools up that I had drug out for this small task and took a break. But, it was worth the effort AND I feel much better about that. ;)
Looks great Bill! A nice addition to the Indian
