View Full Version : Annoying Neighbors
summer72 11-25-2009, 05:12 PM I have a young soldier living around the corner, three or four houses away. His stereo in his car is beyond deafening. He cruises the neighborhood blasting it full and then sits in his drive for 5-10 minutes blasting, booming, screaming (:mad:aaah!). Morning, lunch and sometimes in the evenings.
I can deal with it (even though I shouldnt have too) for a few seconds sometimes, but its just disrespectful too EVERYONE in the vicinity. Especially the elderly and people with babies, and ME! dammit.
I walked down the alley at 9-10 at night about a week or so ago and asked him politely to keep it down because I can hear it in my home around the block over my surround sound system. I can't even drown it out its so freaken loud. He was cool about it and said he would. Since then, I feel he drives down the road playing it even louder now to purposely annoy me.
Most people say "Well, you know,.. he's in the Army and he fights for our country..." ..... and I respect that, but does that give him the right to break the law, disrespect the community and be a complete asshole? If thats so then Police, Fire and other EMS personnel, since they put their lives on the line every day, should be able to break the law too. Right? Anyway, I am thinking about putting in a complaint in to the city, but I wanted to get your opinions first. I don't want to call the Police, I shouldn't have to move (I've lived here longer than him), and I don't have money and time right now to put up sound proofing windows. lol.
I learned the hard way that there are sound laws in most city's..............Had 4 15's in a blazer that I use to compete with..........nieghbors didnt like me getting it ready for shows....hehe....even got pulled over on the highway for being to loud.........lol........Had to turn it down or face getting a ticket.............may want to check the law where you at.........they would also have to catch him in the act to give a ticket.........maybe someone complaining and cops talking to him may change his attitude..........
HonkEwitDaJeep 11-25-2009, 05:30 PM That sucks Tonja, I had neighbors like that so on Sunday Morning when I go to work at 6 am I would pull up close to their house and just give it hell with the exhaust and some tires spinning, they have since moved. I would probably talk to your neighbors and see if they feel the same way and then ask the police to look into the sound ordinances in our area. let them know what is going on and ask if they will send a patrol through every now and then just to check on the neighborhood
Craftsman 11-25-2009, 06:06 PM His being in the military, instead of making him immune to our laws, should make him want to be an example of how to conduct hisself. I enjoy music when I'm driving but always try to think of others when in a neighborhood or apt complex. Sounds like you've done all you can do politely. Talk with your neighbors and contact the police!@@!
hawkeye4077 11-25-2009, 06:56 PM Talk to your neighbors and find out what the laws are. Most communities have some type of law to address noise issues. Then talk to the police.
Black Magic 11-25-2009, 07:00 PM Almost every city has a noise ordinance, mainly because of loud stereos, this goes for ANYTHING that makes a loud noise. There are some areas that won't allow you to use a mower, weed whacker, leaf blower etc, between certain hours. You don't have to call the police but you can file a complaint at city hall, it won't get the same attention as calling out an officer on a noise disturbance but with all your neighbors doing the same, it will get handled. Just because he serves our country doesn't give him the right to do whatever he wants. Fight back the legal way, your in the right.
summer72 11-25-2009, 07:34 PM There is a law here. I believe its 400 feet or so. I love music and I turn it up when I'm cruising sometimes, but I always think about others out there too. I don't have a hifi system. I don't see the point in sending my signal 500 miles away. I dont see the need for it. I'm partially deaf already for being from front row at GodSmack a few years ago. But I can't understand why people who have these systems don't have one ounce of respect for others. There are people in neighborhoods who have health issues, sleeping babies, and or just dont need to hear you in their home. Home is where we all should feel safe and a place to get away from the outside world.??? When some jerk off drives by or cranks it up so loud that I can hear it in my HOME, I get pissed off. They are invading my space. I shouldn't have too move to the desert to be comfortable.

summer72 11-25-2009, 07:39 PM Thanks for all the great replies guys. I guess I will have to make a complaint on that address, since he doesnt play it for long enough that police would be able to catch him. There goes some other peckerhead driving by right now shaking my pictures off the wall! aaah! lmao. Maybe I'm getting old?
stuka3131 11-25-2009, 09:00 PM I agree with the others, call and complain, that is the only way this guy is going to learn. You should not have to hear that night and day.

summer72 11-26-2009, 02:41 PM You know I had read that years ago and have told people its 25 feet, which isn't much, but someone told me it was 400. I'm glad you posted that so now I know.
