Hey guys,

Well I am dumb when it comes to car parts...lol.

I got the RT System on my car but want to make it meaner sounding.

I got Reso's deleted...but honestly thought they were the parts circled in Blue and not on piping near the Muffler.

I was thinking those boxes would be removed and I would have just pipes hanging there.

So, I am a bit confused.

What do I need to get to make my car sound meaner and keep performance?

Yellow = suitcase muffler
Blue= resonator

hmmm.

When I had my Resonators deleted....the guy cut near the Suitcase Muffler then and removed them.

I still have the 2 Big Resonator ( Blue Circles ) Boxes in place.

Did he do right?

Nope, he took out your muffler, go back and educate him, maybe get a good price on some magnaflo's or something

Gosh dang man!!!

I thought I was right when going in there.

Thats why I got confused. I figured he knew what he was doing.

He didnt cut the muffler off its still there. I just remember him putting his hands around the 2 pipes coming out of the muffler and saying, " these are where the resonators are located and where it will be cut off at ".

Then asked me if I heard a system without the Resonators and that the system will sound "Healthy" after he removes them.

I am confused as to what he did, if you still have the reso's and the muffler, then he charged you to cut out some pipe and replace it with...... pipe I would definately be going back and asking for some kind of explanation

ChargerH2O

Yeah will definitely.

Though I am sure they are closed tomorrow, friday and the weekend.

Sad thing is, they are reputable.

I am going to get a flashlight and go out there and look.

This is crazy and blows my mind.

I knew what they were supposed to cut and then he said what he said, so I doubted myself and let him do his job.

can you snap some pics of the underneath of your car? I would like to see what he did.

Hey Landon,

You were right, He took off my muffler!!!

What a dummy!

I thought I had seen it there but then now the muffler is gone and I can see the heat shield material plain as day.

this has happened to more than 1 person, go back and explain it to him. he should be able to put the muffler back in and delete the reso's

x2....

When I had my reso removed they cut the muffler off... had to have them weld it back on and do it right. He still wanted to argue about it but said he would do what I wanted. I let him know that on the LX the rear muffler is the resonator and the front is the actual muffler. I would have doubted myself if it hadn't been for all the reading I had done before hand.

He sure did cut the wrong thing out. The funny thing is the guy who did my install told me that alot of the SXT's he had done were leaving the reso's and cutting out the suitcase muffler. He knew which one was which though. You'll have to go back Monday.

But that is what I want and need though right. Muffler to be in and Reso's Out for good sound and performance stay where its at.

Yeah Nick it will help the sound even more.

I would think that would be the best way to go. IMHO. Of course I like mine with the reso's on, but if I was looking to get louder, I would first try leaving the muffler and dropping the reso. That may help the popping sound I heard in the video also.

Great guys!

Thanks for the info and help!

Everyone at the shop I went to insisted that the muffler was the resonator. He even told me that the reso is flow through and that you could see through it from one end to the other then tried to show me that you could see through the muffler. I pointed out that you couldn't and that was the end of that conversation.

They then said mine was the 1st LX that they had worked on.

Try this mod if you want your ride to sound "meaner"...CAI mod...let er breathe in the "MOPAR How to" section. I promise you it will! It was done on an R/T but I'm sure the SXT will be similar. Oh, and it's very inexpensive to boot.

ChargerH2O
12-01-2009, 03:13 AM
Well they fixed them!

Sounds alot better now. No cracking sounds.

He did the arguing to me too. Tried to show me the muffler was see through and all. So, I told him to just get the Muffler on, Resos Off and let me get on the road.

Well, then he hit me up for a bill. $37.00 more. Because of Piping needed for the tips and new hangers to hang the new piping.

I didnt even argue that, I just said heres the card and I left out.

I wont be going there anymore thats for sure.

I had my resonators removed, they place that did mine added hooks so my pipes wouldn't sag. Sounds great I used Thrusher Mufflers (2) and got rid of that big box stock mufflers the Thrush mufflers are somewhat cheaper than most but comparable to Flowmaster 40 series. Have had people stop me and ask what kind of pipes I had, just an idea. Now with that once you remove your resonators you will have a slight vibration when you get onit but its not bad well at least I don't think it is lol. Hope this helps some

Thanks man. I will look into it.

The vibration I dont feel though. Could be there, but I dont feel it.

If you get yourself a good CAT back system, add on some long tube headers. They will give it a deeper growl and help it breath a little better.

Best thing you could do. Not only better sound but better performance.

FWIW my Grand Prix GTP has dual rear mufflers behind a single mid-mount reso.
