Okay, I've run the 5.7 issue to ground with the MOPAR Performance Group gurus and this is what I know to be true:

1. The older version of the TCM for 5.7 would not let you take your transmission to the limit unless you upgraded the PCM. You could have your car in manual mode and try to run it farther up the RPM scale but the OEM PCM wouldn't let you do it.

2. To cure the issue, you would either have to upgrade the PCM "or" use a tool such as DiabloSport's Predator and raise the shift points.

3. The "new" TCM for both 5.7 and 6.1 applications "does not" require the PCM to be upgraded because you can shift when you want to in manual mode now...and for that reason they left the safety note off of the new instructional sheet..."but" they still want people to call so they can "market" their other products...ie camshaft upgrades, torque converter yadi yadi ya...Basically like any other peformance product answer..."You can use this product but it'll even work better if you add this other product and wait a minute you can also add another additional product to make your ride really rock."

Soooooooo, if your interested.....bottom line: If you get the new TCM, you don't need additional upgrades to get value from it (that's for 5.7 and 6.1). New TCMs cover 2004-2009 5.7 and 6.1 applications....I don't know about TCM upgrades for our Avenger/Ram folks but they are probably out there.

Okay then...that's about it for this addition of "How to:"...Hope everyone has gained some knowledge from it and use this info to get those MOPARs moving a little more quickly down the road.

I have a MOPAR performance TCM in my 5.7 and it runs very well. I have the shift points set at 6,000 RPM and from a dead stop it hits all the gears at that. I had the dealer install it with the Star Tool, programed the VIN into the TCM. There is now a TCM for the 5.7 and another one for the 6.1. Got mine from HHP.

ok, so i'm new to the Mopar family, i just bought a 2011 challenger rt, i hate the way the trans shifts, plus it sounds awefull on the shift, like its slipping or something, now i know it isn't but its not a firm shift, so will this mod take care of that? and do we know the right part number for the challenger with the 5.7? should i just wait for one of the tuners to crack the code and let the tune fix this?
