Default How to: Temp Fix for Pink Thingy

If yall are anything like me and your Park Lock Out Mechanism breaks and you arent home, your car may be stranded for a few days until the replacement part comes in. Well i found a way that you can disengage the car out of park and drive your car home where it is safe and sound. I will post a video showing how to do this as well but for now all i have are pictures.

1. Remove your center console and disconnect all wires.
2. Find the broken pink thingy (it is visible from the passenger side of the shifter):

3. Using a screwdriver, place the end of the screwdriver behind the pink part and use the tip of the screwdriver to push the pink part forward. You must have your foot on the brake as if you were shifting into drive normally and while using the screwdriver you must also be "pulling" the shifter down as if to shift out of park and into drive.

If done correctly (it may take a couple of tries to figure out) pushing the pink part forward will allow the shifter to drop down into drive and you can be on your way. This is only a temp fix and you will have to do this every time to get your car out of park until fixed. I hope this helps some of you should this ever occur.

Cool post Cody, I need to remember that. When mine broke, sometime back, I ended up getting taken to the Dodge dealer and getting a new shifter (in this case, if was a good idea, as I hadn't realized how weakened the shifter springs had gotten. But NOW, I also have an aluminum thingy and if I have that problem again, I'll be able to get it home and replace the "Pink Thingy".
