Default CAI mod...let er breathe

Ok, I got this idea from Daak and ran with my own version... the idea is to put the "CA" in the CAI. As you know, the intake sits in the engine compartment where all the warm air is circulated unless you have one that feeds down to the bottom of the compartment where the cold air is. So...how to get the cold air? Well, here's "a way"!

Remove the filter

to expose the compartment.

Next, locate the corner panel under the grill and pop out two clips. For models other than the R/T, you may have to modify this or get creative.

This is what that panel looks like. Mark the diameter hole that the hose will fit into.

Cut the hole out of this thing

This is what it looks like

Obtain a gasket of some sort.

This one is a bit too small diameter so I will have to cut it out some.

Place and fit the rubber thing.

Get a good hose.

Cut the hose to fit.

Replace the panel and place the hose into the hole you cut...this can be tricky!

This is where the "Cold Air" will flow into the CAI!!

And this is the whole thing installed!!!

You will be amazed at the diference!!!! It will sound and feel like your car just came up for air! Do this mod and release the Beast out of your ride!!! And as always...happy modding!

Never seen the hose used. The idea is generally called the chilly air mod on other forums, congratz on a fairly inexpensive mod Ken!! Looks like a good write up and interesting info!

I cheated on this mod a little. I swapped the two panels (the one you cut for it's twin on the other side) so that it pushes the air towards the intake instead of through the radiator. No heat issues and you can tell it's putting the cool air towards the intake. This is an even better idea though as it ducts the air into the engine compartment better. Way to go Ken!
